The Ultra 5 IDE controller is a piece of shit. It can't even do UDMA 33,
so you just will not be able to get semi-decent performance out of it,
no matter how good the drive and how small the load is.

The Ultra 2 as a SCSI machine is a good alternative, but it doesn't fit
into his idea of expected speed improvement I guess.

I've been playing with the idea to buy a used dual Ultra 2 from eBay myself
from time to time, but always decided I do not need yet another slow machine
in the end.
