What vendor stocks an external drive that will boot on sparc and sparc64
that will actually boot from a CDR burnt disk.
I just received an Ultra 1. It can boot from a commercially produced
Solaris 2.6 CD. It gets short read errors from a CDR of Solaris 8 and
NetBSD/sparc64 1.6.
The Solaris 8 CDR booted and installed on a Sun 4m machine from an ancient
Sun CDROM drive, albeit with a lot of correctable soft errors during the
install.
The NetBSD 1.6 booted and installed on an Ultra 5 with no problem.
It looks like Sun doesn't sell external CDROM drives anymore.
