   Now I'm off to see if 'device registration' is documented in the sparc
   port. It sure isn't documented in the sparc64 port.

device_register(9) isn't documented but it should be.  it's the
MD-provided interface for saying "this device has arrived" for
the MD code to find the boot device, basically.
