It worked, with one caveat.  The ISO made with sunlabel(8) / subootcd.sh 
is perfectly bootable on this U10 w/ the default OPB devalias for 'cdrom' 
... ugh /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/cdrom@2,0:f... which specifies partition 
":f", however the ISO output from mkisofs(1) required that I specify the 
":b"  parition to boot it. ... Ie., "boot cdrom:b" ...

I'm sure we could use loopbackfs/nullfs or hexedit to examine differences, 
but it's easier just to document this [incorrect] behavior.

I will add notes about using mkisofs's -B flag/switch to my final draft 
with a <note> about opb changes required.
