     Install the Berkeley Fast File System primary bootstrap on to
     disk `wd0':
           installboot /dev/rwd0c /usr/mdec/bootblk

     The secondary NetBSD/sparc64 bootstrap is located in
     /usr/mdec/ofwboot.

My U5 has

gdt 5 ~ > l /ofwboot 
-r--r--r--  1 root  wheel  61771 Jun 23  2004 /ofwboot

You didn't mention this, and the lack of it matches the reported hang.
