I couldn't agree more, the PCI code in XFree is just horrible. Might be
necessary on PCs but it makes things unnecessarily complicated for
everyone else.

Well, at least on macppc that's different - only wsdisplay_cnattach is
called early ( can't attach a wsdisplay that early because there's
nothing to attach it to I guess ) and it does Horrible Things(tm) when
there's more than one of them. But Apple OF only initializes one display
anyway so that's not really a problem.
