you may be able to fix this by editing by hand /grub/device.map:
(hd0) /dev/rld0d
Another way to workaround this is to install grub without grub-install,
using the method described in
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-xen/2006/03/01/0010.html
this is for RAIDframe, but should easy to adapt for your hardware raid
(obviously you just need to do one install on ld0, not one on each underlying
drives).
