I think what you are seeing is merely the code maturing. There have been many
revisions and the functionality has been increasing. It may be that
the 'root=' parameter is now specifically tied to a linux domu and causes a
problem when used with nbsd, whereas in the past it was just completely
ignored.
But you are right, in the past it was ignored. Whether what you are seeing is
a bug or a feature, I'm not sure. All I know is that it is an option that has
never been needed for a nbsd domu and for it to cause a problem now, seems
completely within the realm of active development :)
I always wondered why xen couldn't just 'root = bootdev' when detecting a nbsd
domu ...
