It has a propensity to lock up due to vnode::v_numoutput not being maintained correctly. It's on my list of things to look fix. In any case I think I will add a printf into lfs_mount().
For the sake of testing, is it worth me continuing to use lfs? I've been meaning change the drive over to something bigger and was contemplating getting rid of lfs due to the frequency of the lockup. I'm quite happy to update/patch to provide any required info. fscking a 750GB drive doesn't sound that tempting as an alternative :)
