It's the linux kernel which decide the if's name in this case. I don't
know what rules it uses for this but I find it strange that it doesn't
always pick up the same name.
I don't know what debian did to their kernel, but with scientific linux 5
domUs the interface always shows up as eth0.

is it dhclient which doens't work, or is it just that it tries to
run on a nonexistent interface ?
