OK, got it, xenbackendd was not running. Sorry for the false
alarm. But why do Xen error messages are always so cryptic?

PS: my Linux domU starts but the Linux kernel panics. If someone knows
how to find binary non-PAE Linux kernels or have an idea how to build
one properly, I'm all ears.
