I had a look at it, is uses pexpect. Using TCL expect in a shell-script:
/usr/pkg/bin/expect > crash.log << EOT
spawn xl console damn_crashing_beast
send "+++++"
send "\n"
expect "db{0}>"
send "ps\n"
expect "db{0}>"
send "c\n"
expect "login:"
exit
EOT

Of course that needs improvement: it will not get login: when frozen.
