Ahh, yes. I removed strings(1) recently from the alpha boot floppy for
different reasons -- because it's now GNU, and because of the way we link
together everything in the floppies, it now GPL-poisons the boot floppy.
I couldn't find any reason it needed to be there anyway. This is a very
minor point; there are no legions of lawyers examining our boot floppies
for exceedingly technical GPL violations by an open source OS, but the
strings(1) move also broke the crunchgen recipes.
BSD strings was killed off as part of the unfinished egcs integration.
I'm not sure exactly why. One casual idea: move it to distrib/util.
