This code has some pretty major problems.   Please do not add it
to the Makefile until they are all addressed (sigh, wasn't it
decided that *this particular instance* of getopt_long() _wouldn't_
go into the tree?)

A message outlining some of these will be sent shortly (right now I
just want to go to sleep :-)
