   moving into the gnu/usr.bin/binutils directory to reflect GNU's
   encapsulation of these packages).


that's not really right.  the GNU encapsulation is that the binutils
programs besides ld & gas are in the "binutils" directory and that
ld and gas have their own directories.

sure, bintuils ld & gas are all released as a single package, but
that isn't how they're built or kept normally.
