but this api was not in any netbsd release, hence, should be
considered -- like anything else in -current -- "unstable".

because that would be pointless. i doubt anyone is using this
interface, *we* are not using this interface, and starting a
compat mess here would be really over nothing.

let's be realistic: there is no harm in changing an unused and
unstable interface.
