Which '}' ends up missing?
The truly last one should be in col 1.
Since it is written bu it's own 'echo' it is hard to see how it could fail!

Nah, not that scary, there is only one 'eval' :-)

Try adding:
    exec 2>/tmp/log
    set -x
at the top and seeing what it actually tries to do.
