Noone objected that point in the original thread or when I posted the
list of tree-wide changes. Note that we are talking about *device*
errors and they are not outside the scope of autoconf for excatly that
reason. At least a number of developers agreed when I brought up the
topic again for the _dev and _ifp wrappers.
