publically, I think the RCS ID could be removed, while still being on
the vendor branch though.

unfortunately... yes.

I remember that every time I have to do "collaborative work", or even
submit my stuff. Generally it gets on my nerves, waiting dozen of
minutes to get a diff, checkout a branch, just doing a simple rsync
(note that I didn't speak about merge or really useful action)...
Finally, I give up and start watching a movie to calm down.
