SNMP is only an example of the issue. The example of multiple CLI users
is equally valid.
If you want to see the counter delta from a recent start point then use
a tool that can keep track of the counter value at the start point and
only show you a delta from that start point.
(snmpdelta from the net-snmp tools is an example of such a tool, as is
the '-w wait' option on the various *stat tools, including netstat for
the very interface counters in question here)
