There was quite a tempest in the current-users teapot recently on this
issue. I didn't feel any upshot was reached; some people like the
idea, others dislike it.
As long as it doesn't mean a SysV init with /etc/inittab and runlevels,
it doesn't matter much, because you can switch by just juggling
scripts. I won't go into much detail now; the list archives would do a
much better job than I.
