Oops!  It dawned on me a little late that "~/" expansion _is_ not always
as good an analogy as I may have put across.  As a minimum because it
applies to command arguments other than zero, (I wonder if that was
the reason for not implementing ~-expansion in the original rc?).

Not that I fear my arguments would be flawed, but I have to admit to not
thinking this issue through.
