No, my reason for having it in /bin is the same reason ping is in
/sbin:  it's useful for debugging and experimenting with network
problems.  pkgsrc can't help you when your /usr comes from NFS
and you can't figure out what's wrong with the network.

I originally mentioned file copying (which appears to have been a
mistake) because the first thing i do on a freshly installed
system is use nc to get the rest of my stuff onto the system.
