that's kind of a red herring, isn't it? after all, file(1) is
*defined* to look inside the (regular and non-empty) file to intuit
the type. lpr (et al), on the other hand, is defined to print things.
if anything, something that wants to intuit a file's type should ask
file. or the mythic libmagic.
