So I moved my printer to a location where it was most convenient to
connect it via ethernet. $100 later, I have a D-link print server.
Works fine.
I had been using magicfilter via "if=", but that doesn't work with
our stock LPD.
I tried LPRng. It doesn't work and seems impossible to debug.
I tried CUPS. It has opaque binary only "print drivers" that don't
please me at all. (tell me if I'm wrong).
I have a 6 year old Optra 5e. It does PCL4.
All I really want is to run things through magicfilter again.
I've "solved" this by having a script call magicfilter, put
things in a file and queue it to another queue that goes to the
real printer. That sucks for "lpq".
Is there any other options? Simple ones?
Ones without web interfaces?
