I think the best reason I've heard (least knee-jerk) is for embedded use.=

Having no GPL'd code in a memory image can greatly simplify life for=20
vendors.
So Phil, could we talk you into releasing a version of bc that is either=20
BSD or Dual-use licensed? :-)
