I'm not sure whether this constitutes an argument either way (indeed,
I'm not totally clear what's in question), but I still use SLIP
occasionally.  Not often, it's true, but when I do need it, not much
else will do.  (No, PPP won't; I spent most of a day once struggling to
convince PPP to bring a hardwired link back up without human
intervention for all orders of reboots and serial line
disconnect/reconnects, totally failing.  SLIP, on the other hand, Just
Worked - it's a good case of "too simple to break".  Now, it could be
that I just missed something when diddling with PPP, but even if so,
that I missed it argues that PPP is inferior in that it's difficult to
set up this way, even if in no other way.)

However, I don't recall ever using slstats even out of sheer curiosity.
I don't think I had even noticed its existence.
