Yes, this is true.  However, in my experience--and I know you have
your doubts--the lazy inode allocation seems to really help unless the
filesystem is mostly full (or somewhat empty, as the "pessimist" would
say, heh).

Background fsck would be a great solution for this, but personally I'd
rather see LFS become more stable.  Of course, one doesn't want an LFS
partition to get too full either, although I've certainly done so
without any [major] problems.

Do you have any other suggestions?
