nvi(1) broken without /var mounted

Hi,

While speaking about nvi(1), I am unable to edit any file without /var
mounted or (I guess) an existing /var/tmp. The error message is the
following:

# vi /etc/rc.conf
Error: /var/tmp/vi.recover: No such file or directory
Modifications not recoverable if the session fails
Error: /var/tmp/vi.recover: No such file or directory

vim(1) handle this situation gracefully, AFAIR as does the old vi(1).

Should I file a PR ?
