At least you could have make it obvious and warn people you are using
filesharing sites.  May be I didn't have enough coffee yet, but I went
through 3 iterations of 

. copy the http://mumble/.../44bsd-manuals.tar.bz2
. ftp <paste the link> in a screen window
. switch to doing other stuff
. switch back
. tar ztvf 44bsd-manuals.tar.bz2
. WTF, it's corrupt
