I think that economic factors play much; there were projects targetting
home users with advertizing and buying platforms, to turn the web, and
eventually, devices into stores, so there exist market-driven
incentives to develop idiot-proof systems for "everyone out there".
Of course it's not the same needs that expert users in a particular
field may have (the markets for those being much more specialized)...

Sometimes I also think that, LOL.  A little drastic for my tastes, but
I've read once or twice about the idea of requireing a mandatory course
to allow access to a computer :)
