Hmm, I think you got me confused.  I read your first mail as if on _every_ 
boot, whether with or without PPP I would see that message.  But that seems not 
to be the case and when I don't set ppp=YES explicitely, nothing happens on the 
console.

I think I misunderstood you, so meybe best disregard my comment...  All I did 
not want is that said error message would appear on consoles of machines that 
do not start PPP at all.
