Not sure exactly what the problem is, except that maybe you haven't 
recompiled a new kernel to go along with the new ps and w.  Another
suggestion may be to try the PROCFS in your new kernel as well.  I 
and several others are running current (I'm running current as of
2-7-94 ;) and  have been running current without any problems (at
least without that problem... ;)
