I have no problems with ifconfig ed0 on my WD8013EBT.
Did you completely delete your prior source tree and untar the new
sources onto a clean drive? Also, making sure you have no .o files
left over? For some reason, old depricated .c files can sometimes
mess up the build. Also, I assume you did a "make install" in
/usr/src/include and /usr/src/share/mk?

This is always a possibility. I'd hope it wouldn't kill your system
though.
