	well, last night, i went snooping through my machine's BIOS setup
	utility, and looked at all the options that were vaguely BIOS related.

	the only two that were enabled were the BIOS shadowing and video BIOS
	shadowing.

	i disabled these, rebooted the machine, sat through the bootup sequence
	[with the -strange- beeep for some reason---it seems as though bios
	shadowing affects the system beep], and started x.

	figured the first thing i'd try is

	% limit datasize 32m
	% xv [v3.0a] a whole pile of big .JPG images [1024x768, etc...]

	whammmo.  took 10 pictures to lock it up.


	sigh.  i'll see if new bootblocks help tonight.
