Are you actually using the block device?!  fsck(8) is always supposed
to be used with the character device.  I could believe there something
wrong with the block device code that nobody else noticed, because
presumably nobody else uses the block device except for mount(8).

Anyway, I'll see if I can reproduce such a problem.
