I was using the 5/3 build and decided to move on to the 1.0-alpha.
Everything went smoothly, until I went to rebuild the kernel for my
particular needs (gateway option mainly); the build seemed to do fine
until I rebooted...at which point my /usr partition seems to have
gotten screwed up. I had to do a manual fsck, and even after that,
every reboot seems to mess up more files. Since I haven't heard about
any other such reports, I assume I have a funky configuration; the
obvious weirdness is that my disks are still in the old format. They
won't be for long though--I'll be reformatting them in the hopes that
it'll solve my problem. But, whatever the case, there *is* a bug of
some sort in there.
