Well, reinstalling 0.9 to get more reasonable partitions and bringing
my system all the way back up to -current wasn't as painful as I
originally feared.  I did run into some 'gotchas' along the way,
though:

1) /dev/vga should be in the set of /dev entries created by 'MAKEDEV
std', because /etc/ttys needs it.  Bad Things happen when you can't
start up a getty on your console because /dev/vga doesn't exist....

2) MAKEDEV uses chgrp, which now lives under /usr/bin.  Is it correct
to assume that MAKEDEV will only be used when /usr is mounted?

3) The new /bin/sh message about . in root's path is a profiling aid
of a sort; whenever you see it, you know a new copy of /bin/sh has
been started. :-)  Shouldn't you take your own advice and take . out
of the PATH in /.profile, /root/.login, &c.?
