I'm still using that method and it works for me. However, you should
*NOT* set the partition type to MSDOS! Disklabel seems to think that
MSDOS refers to a MBR (or something like that); when I set type=MSDOS
my MBR was hosed, too. It was a bug in disklabel that is now gone,
although I still have the type of my MSDOS partition set to unused.
The type is not checked by mount nor by mount_msdos.
