This isn't directly related to your question, but if you add 

setenv BLOCKSIZE 1k

to your .cshrc, then df, du, pstat, and others should report values in
1k block sizes instead of 512 byte ones.  (Of course if you don't use
csh, you'll have to set BLOCKSIZE some other way, etc.)  

(I suppose a "-k" option might be usefull in scripts or something, but
I'm not going to complain one way or another if it's not implemented).
