You got chs addressing and I get lba addressing. I don't know how.
(It is found by probing the drive.)
Substituting with a wd 540 Mb drive works flawlessly.
What jumpers do you have set on your drive ?? (I have none, = secondary)

It is clear to me that the drive cannot handle the lba addressing but found
no way to disable it. The drive works flawless with kernels before lba
addressing was added.
