Hello. I have been having a problem w/ -current crashing somewhat
unpredictably. Well, mostly unpredicatably anyways. A good trigger
has been compiling gcc, which will crash the system at some point, but
not necessarily at the same file.
The crash is along various system calls that seem to be file-system related,
but the trace will always result in:
kernel: page fault trap, code = 0
stopped at _trap +0x20c;
movl 0xec(%esi),%esi
A stack trace reveals different file system calls having been started, either
on local or nfs mounted partitions, but will always be in the form of:
_trap(16)
_idle(.,.,.,.,)
bpendtosleep
.
.
.
_syscall(..)
The problem went away when the CPU was replaced w/ a DX2/66. The problem was
noted in mid-August sources, and hasn't gone away. The problem did not exist
in early-May sources, however.
The hardware setup is:
AT&T Globalyst 515
40 MB RAM
520 MB IDE drive
SMC 16-bit Ethernet card
Other information can be provided. If anyone would have sugegstions on how to
attack this problem, it would be appreciated :)
