I use a 486DX2-66 with 16 megs of memory as a news server, ftp server,   
smtp and pop3.  I have very few problems and no one has complained when I   
have 6 connections and news is swapping like mad to disk.  The only   
problems I've ever had was the drive for news becoming full, that's it.

I talked to a friend who is running INN 1.4 on LINUX and has constant   
problems with file on the news drive becoming corrupted from the constant   
reading, writing and deleting, I've never had this problem.

This might be a little off from what you were looking for, but it's the   
best I can do.

        Hello NetBSDer's.  I realize that this is a tired topic, but I   
really
need some hard numbers comparing Linux and NetBSD in a multi-user time
sharing environment with nfs mounted home directories.  For example,
performance was generally OK on Linux machines until 7 users logged in.
Performance on NetBSD wasn't steller, but the decay as the load got   
higher
was fairly flat, causing the NetBSD machine to handle heavey loads more
gracefully.  Also, are there people running NetBSD machines in this sort   
of
environment?  How many users can a NetBSD machine with 128MB (I386)   
Penteom
100 handle realistically?  What about Linux?
        Any bench marks that people have run, etc. experiences of woe,
success,
 things to look out for, etc. would be very helpful.
