You may laugh, but I considered that. The small caveat: one buck for
me/NetBSD results into about 5 bucks to the buyer of the CD (thats a rule
of the market). So, instead of lowest price possible, I'd have it had at a
too-much level.
I have a far better idea, which may at least work for the german market.
All CDs could contain a money transfer form to donate money of any amount
you would like to send to the NetBSD-Group (or to me, for assembling
first) to support NetBSD (and the makings).
This is called shareware-CD and works very great for the Amiga CD-ROM
"Meeting Pearls", where about 4000DM have been gathered in half a year
(issue was about 8000CDs). The donation is up to you. You dont have to
pay, you are not forced to, and the price of the CD does not increase only
a forced donation is included.
What do you think? Please consider that the dealers selling such a CD
need to make a fair amount of money to stock and sell the CD. So even if
the possible price of 5$US would be makable, the CD would have to cost
about 9 to 10$US at least, to make the CD attractive to stockpile and sell
(or even advertise!).
