Thanks for all the responses on BIND -- it appears that SunOS/Solaris
bind is "broken" (or defaults to automatic search since the "search" 
keyword is not supported in older BIND).

I added:

        search bar.baz.quux bar.baz

and all was well.

My next question is:  Why does ypmatch/ypcat/ypwhich dump core if there
is no resolv.conf?  Shouldn't they perform independently?
