Here, /home2 is an NFS mounted partition:

jmarin@pyy /home2 %(50)ls -l hum
-rw-r--r-- 1 4 wheel 33 May 7 09:28 hum

jmarin@pyy /home2 %(51)cat hum
cat: hum: Permission denied

jmarin@pyy /home2 %(52)ls -l hum
-rw-r-xr-x 1 4 wheel 33 May 7 09:28 hum

jmarin@pyy /home2 %(53)cat hum
Tue May 7 09:28:45 EET DST 1996

Is this a feature? Do I have to set the execute bit for all files?

I also noticed that after I read a file once as root, I can then read it
as any user with no problems (at least as long as it stays in some NFS
cache (or something)).

Help! :)
