So, some of you might have noticed that I've been a busy beaver today,
integrating Matt Jacob's changes for AlphaServer 8[24]00 support and
his ISP 10x0 driver, and a bunch of other stuff.

Here's a heads-up for it all, and what i means to you:


Sparc folks:

The 'isp' driver is now in the tree, and has an entry in the sparc
GENERIC config file.  It should compile, etc., but I thought i'd warn
you if it didn't.


Alpha folks:

AlphaServer 8200 and 8400 support is now in.  It's still rough around
the edges, and is only known to work on single-cpu systems (and
couldn't take advantage of multiple CPUs even if it had them), but it
works well enough to boot multi-user, compile itself, etc., from what
I understand.  All of you with AlphaServer 8200s and 8400s, yes,
that's right, now is your chance to run NetBSD.  I bet you've all been
waiting for that, right?  8-)

As noted above, the 'isp' driver is now in the tree and in the GENERIC
and ALPHA config files.  This means that there is light at the end of
the tunnel for you folks who have systems with built-in ISP1020s.
I'll be compiling a GENERIC kernel tonight and putting it up for FTP,
for those of you chomping at the bit.

The PCI and EISA front ends for the aic7xxx-family ("ahc") and bha
drivers now compile on the Alpha.  The ahc driver is known to work
with at least some PCI ahc boards, but the EISA front-end is untested.
The bha driver is completely untested (for both EISA and PCI) on the
Alpha.


i386 folks:

"see above changes, and note that some of them affect drivers used by
the i386."  8-) Also, i've added an 'isp' entry to the i386 GENERIC
and INSTALL kernel configs, so that if any of you happen to have an
ISP10x0 board it should just work.  (If any of you do have access to
one of those boards, and can test the driver, please do!)



If you run into problems with the isp driver, please send mail to me
<cgd@cs.cmu.edu> and Matt Jacob <mjacob@feral.com>.  (If it's
something simple related to the way the driver's integrated into the
source tree, I can deal with it.  Else it's Matt's.  8-)

If you run into any problems with the other driver changes, please get
in touch with me and I'll see about getting them straigtened out.
(The other driver changes have been tested on the x86 as well, so
there shouldn't be problems.)

If you run into problems with AlphaServer 8200 and 8400 support,
contact Matt and I.  (I don't expect many, actually any, people to try
this now or "soon", but just in case...  8-)
