You can, but you'll need to run this as root.  (I prefer to avoid having
to run pppd as root, myself.)

A better solution might be to extend the syntax of ipnat configuration
files so that it could simply snarf the (first) IP address bound to the
interface.  This has already been done elsewhere, but I would rather avoid
that implementation because it wasn't well thought out.
