I just got a used Seagate Hawk st31200n, taken from a Sparcstation
I think, and plugged it into the NCR controller on my PPro 150,
along with another (older, 15xxx) Hawk, an IBM drive, and a Quantum
Lightning drive. Unfortunately, this new Hawk seems to have problems
with the disklabel. I did a `disklabel -r -R' and put a disklabel
on it, but when I read it back with `disklabel -r' I get:

sd3(ncr0:5:0): illegal request, data = 00 00 00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff

the system stalls for about 30 seconds, with the NCR's light off
but the Hawk's light on, and then prints

sd3(ncr0:5:0): command aborted, retrying, cmd 0x8, info 0x0, data = 00 00 00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff

and gives me the disklabel. Disklabel without -r produces bogus
values. A dd from /dev/rsd3c does the same as the disklabel -r and
then completes.

Any thoughts? Is this likely to be a bad drive, or just screwyness
in the NCR device driver?
