I think the general way is to grab a snapshot and read the directions.

The only snapshot I know of for 1.2G is for the i386. Check the archive of
the port-i386 to find yesterday's message about problems with the
snapshot.

As snapshots are very port-specific, it's generally better to ask on the
list for that port.
